When choosing a tent, whether it is for wild camping or family camping, there are various factors you will need to consider: The downside to buying online is that you can’t actually get hold of the product to try it out first. My two eldest children are getting to the stage where they are desperate to go wild camping. I decided it was time to invest in a 3 man tent to do the job for us and thought I would share what I found. The following are the best 3 man tents for wild camping that I could find.

The groundsheet offers a 5,000mm hydrostatic head, with the fly at 2,000mm, which is plenty for the milder months in the UK.The bedroom width at 170cm is quite tight for 3, however, with a storage area of 180cm x 190cm, there is plenty of space for your gear. You might even be able to fit another person in here, as long as they don’t mind not being in the main part of the tent of course. Outer Tent Space – The outer tent space is the total amount of space the tent will take up. This is usually the size of your flysheet and will include the storage space inside the tent This tent is built to last using Japanese grade aluminium Yunan T6 tent poles, engineered in Korea for maximum durability and performance in any weather conditions. Even after years of use, these poles maintain their structural integrity. With that end being just that little bit lower, it’s a little more aerodynamic and experiences less buffeted by the wind. Also, on the aerodynamic front, the mesh pole sleeves that reduce wind resistance are a must. They lower the amount of wind resistance and tent movement often experienced on similar tents without them.
The hydrostatic head of 2,000mm for the fly and 3,000mm for the groundsheet is a little low, meaning this tent would be better for milder weather conditions. Another factor that can be a great indication of product quality is the brand. Brands like OEX are of course extremely well known, especially for 3 – 4 Person Tents. The weight at 3.5kg is a little heavy and may need to be split between you when going wild camping. For milder month wild camping, this tent is a good option, but there are better available from other brands at a similar price. The internal space is similar to others in this price range, with a fairly small width, but enough to accommodate 3 people.

The bedroom width of 180cm is quite snug for 3 but should give enough room for your camping mats. The storage area of the tent measures 180cm by 170cm, which is plenty of space to store gear for 3 people. The only criticism I have is the very reflective strip that runs around the base of the tent. It’s great for helping you find your tent, and it looks cool too, but for a stealth camper it may bother you. The tent offers flexibility with doors on each side, allowing you to choose your entry point based on the prevailing wind direction. These doors can also be opened as vents, promoting airflow and ventilation during warmer weather conditions.At a weight of 2,500g, this tent should be fairly comfortable for one person to carry without needing to spread the load between you.
